With all the associated problems of recruiting and retaining staff and in a period when there seems to be ever increasing downward pressure on prices and the need to maintain or increase quality, there has perhaps never been a more relevant time for the industry to be made aware of advances in automation.

The HRIA Robotics Conference, at Warwick HRI, Wellesbourne, on September 23, is targeted at all those involved with vegetable crop production and packaging, of both outdoor and protected crops. Issues that will be covered include fully automated vegetable transplanting, the use of robots in the automobile industry, and tractor mounted nitrogen sensors linked to application equipment.

Speakers will cover advances in sensory equipment that may one day find use in the food industry, including electronic noses, and magnetic resonance imaging.

Chaired by Professor Richard Napier, the conference offers a panel of informed speakers presenting key issues and advances in automated technology.
