Warm wet weather over the last 10 days has accelerated the UK outdoor rhubarb harvest and brought it into line with a normal start. Daytime temperatures of 14-15°C in Kent over the period as well have ample rainfall mean that the week’s delay growers were anticipating for their product has now been caught up.

The outdoor crop began harvesting this week, marketers reported, and will come into greater volume over the next seven to 10 days.

Late frosts mean that growers are still wary however, but supplies are dovetailing well with the last of the forced crop from the traditional Wakefield Triangle tailing off.

Good press coverage in the consumer media is also helping to boost interest in rhubarb and encouraging sales.
