Rhizoctonia warning for lettuce growers

Manufacturer Scotts has adviced lettuce growers to take action to control diseases caused by rhizoctonia solani.

The firm advocates the use of Basilex, a product that can be applied with a hand-held sprayer to deliver protection to the base of the plant and surrounding soil surface, from which infection can start and spread.

Basilex is a wettable powder containing the active ingredient tolclofos-methyl. It is said to control mycelial growth of fungus, thus reducing crop infection through the roots and stem base.

As well as control of rhizoctonia solani, Basilex prevents Damping Off or seedling, Foot and Root Rots in ornamentals, Wirestem on brassicas and Bottom Rot of lettuce.
