Tony Reynolds, managing director and chairman of Reynolds Catering, plans to build a 10,000 square foot London depot and hopes to triple the award-winning company's turnover.

Reynolds was last month voted Re:fresh Food Service Supplier of the Year. Founded in 1989, it employs 300 staff in the UK and has an annual turnover of around £50 million. It claims to be the leading supplier of fresh fruit, vegetables and chilled foods to the UK food service industry.

Short-listed for an award in the business services and products category of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year, part sponsored by The Times, Reynolds told the newspaper: "We always had a strong family ethic and background." The company is wholly owned by the Reynolds family and and his father Dave is a director.

Interestingly, Reynolds - described by The Times as a third-generation East End "barrow boy" singles out Jack Cohen, founder of Tesco as an inspiration - he says this is a business he would like to emulate.
