Israel-based Retalix has signed an agreement with Tesco to upgrade the chain's management protocol in all of its 2,300 stores.

Retalix is engaged in developing, marketing and selling software programmes that cover sales operations and stock control. The deal is estimated at US$10 million which will generate annual revenues of US$2m for the next 4-5 years.

The two companies have been co-operating since 1995, to implement Tesco's strategy of applying a uniform standard of management in its stores throughout the world. The new Retalix software support system is expected to reduce the number of people involved in day-to-day management of stock and its transfer to customers.

Tesco also has European stores in Ireland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Turkey, in which the first upgraded Retalix programme is scheduled to be operating soon.
