Thornton's Budgens

Thornton's Budgens in Crouch End is supplied by produce grown on its roof

A rooftop growing space that grows fresh produce for the Budgens retailer underneath is looking for a 400m2 temporary home while its roof is repaired.

‘Food from the Sky’, based in Crouch End, North London, is looking for volunteers to help dismantle the garden, as well as a plot of land to maintain plants while essential repairs are done.

The team needs a crane, a truck and other machinery to get 15 tonnes of compost, trees, boxes, growing containers off the roof and into a new home.

The project will keep trading with Budgens during the move.

It was set up as a collaboration between Thornton’s Budgens supermarket in North London and Azul-Valerie Thome.

It grows vegetables, fruits, mushrooms and herbs to organic standard and provides a training programme called Seed2Seed on growing, biodiversity and sustainable living.
