The 2013 Re:fresh Awards is now open for entries ahead what is set to be the most exciting event yet.

Awards categories have been completely revamped to reflect the wide range of innovations and initiatives taking place across the fresh produce trade.

New this year will be anEnvironmental Initiative award, which will recognise outstanding work in the corporate social responsibility, sustainability, green or ethical arenas.

Anaward for Collaborationwill honour the best project that breaks down traditional barriers and sees several partners working together in non-traditional ways towards a goal that delivers truly sustainable outcomes. A further new award will be handed out for theBest Place to Work. This will go to the business that goes beyond standard benefits to support employees and ensure their health and happiness in a positive working environment.

Awards will be given for business excellence in two tiers – for companies with turnovers of over and under £50 million.

Individual awards will go to theyoung person and manager of the year, as well as a lifetime achiever.

Thebest retailerswill be acknowledged in theindependent, convenience and multiple categories, while anoverall trader of the yearwill also be announced.

For the first time ever, the industry will have the chance to vote and have a say in which businesses are shortlisted. Further details on how to vote will be revealed nearer the event, which takes place at the Intercontinental Hotel in Park Lane on 10 October.

“These new awards categories have been introduced by popular request and reflect the changing demands placed on modern businesses,” said Nigel Jenney, chair of the judging panel. “We want to acknowledge those companies going above and beyond to deliver outstanding business practices.”
