Redbridge is now sending fruit and vegetables to more than 4,000 schools across the UK.
The company has just sent the first supplies, under the School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme, to pupils in the south east and south west.
Around 162,000 children in 1,400 schools across the two regions will now receive 750,000 pieces of fruit and vegetables a week.
The move completes the national roll out of the scheme across England, with children across the country receiving everything from strawberries to cherry tomatoes and apples to carrots.
The latest two regions are being supplied out of Redbridge’s two new dedicated distribution depots in Bristol and Southampton, representing a significant investment in the scheme by the company.
Redbridge said it had also invested in new specialist routing software that helps determine a delivery schedule that minimises the impact on the environment while ensuring regular supplies of produce.
Richard Clements, account manager, said: “Redbridge is committed to supporting the scheme and the 5 A DAY campaign, which is a valuable initiative for both the company and the community and we are looking forward to developing the contract in the year ahead.”
