Redbridge drivers are the friendliest

Drivers for Redbridge Produce and Flowers, part of Redbridge Holdings, the UK's leading supplier of fresh produce, which delivers free fruit to schools in the North East of England for the School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme, have been named as the "most polite and helpful' in a survey carried out by the Department of Health.

Redbridge Produce and Flowers, which supplies and distributes fruit to over 4,000 schools across the country for the Government's School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme, came out top in the survey which found them to be the most polite and friendly drivers and the quickest to respond to problems. The survey also revealed that more schools in the North East are signed up to the School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme than any other region, with 110,000 four to six year olds in the North East receiving a free piece of fruit or vegetable every day at school.

Alan Shield, managing director at the Gateshead branch of Redbridge Produce and Flowers, said: "We have up to 16 drivers delivering fruit and vegetables to 950 schools in the North East and they are all delighted to have been nominated as the most polite, friendly and helpful drivers in the country. We are very proud to be able to play a part in the Department of Health's initiative to get school children eating more fruit and vegetables."

Jason Smith, business manager at the Public Health Group North East, said: "Redbridge's involvement in supplying and delivering fruit to schools has been key to the success of the School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme. The service they provide is excellent."
