The UK's love of ready meals are showing no signs of abating, according to a new report into the booming ready meal market.

The report by market analysts Datamonitor revealed sales of prepared meals and pizzas reached a record £4 billion last year and is predicted to grow by £5 billion by 2007. The growing popularity of ready meals, which are often high in salts and fat, has raised concerns about long-term health implications.

Lawrence Gould the author of the study, said: “Consumers are increasingly turning to prepared meals to compensate for shrinking amount of time available to prepare and eat meals."
