Sainsbury’s new range of juices

Sainsbury’s has unveiled a new functional health range, with fruit-heavy juices among the products designed to help consumers make healthier choices.

The supermarket has launched four raw pressed juices and two juice shots, sold both as an individual serve or a larger dosing-size. Described by Sainsbury’s as a supermarket own-brand first, the raw pressed juices and juice shots feature a hydrating watermelon juice in place of apple juice, which is traditionally found in juices.

As watermelon juice is naturally low in sugar, the drinks are also up to 45 per cent lower in sugar than many other standard juices in the market, Sainsbury’s claimed.

The juices are cold pressed and high-pressure processed rather than pasteurised and heated so they retain more nutrients and have a fresher taste. Customers can choose from four options: Collagen, Immunity, Daily Greens and Digest, as well as an immunity shot and collagen shots to support customers with their health journey.

The launch comes as 77 per cent of Sainsbury’s customers say they would like their diet to be healthier, with lack of inspiration and time both cited as barriers to doing so.

Sainsbury’s is also launching a range of kefir drinks and protein fat-free yoghurts, made without the use of artificial ingredients. Available in Cherry & Vanilla, Mango & Passionfruit and Strawberry flavours, the yoghurts have fewer ingredients than many other protein yoghurts in the market and are naturally sweetened with real fruit, offering 15g of natural protein.

In addition to the new range, which will see further products added in April, Sainsbury’s is also introducing its ‘Healthy Choice’ icon from January. Rolling out over the coming months, the icon will eventually feature on over 1,300 existing products, including the new functional health range.

The easy-to-spot icon will help customers quickly identify healthier options across various categories, highlighting nutritional benefits like products that are higher in fibre or protein, are a source of Omega 3 or calcium, or count as one of your 5-a-Day.

Nilani Sritharan, head of healthy and sustainable diets at Sainsbury’s, said: “At Sainsbury’s, we’re committed to making everyday healthy essentials affordable and accessible for all our customers and initiatives like Aldi Price Match, Nectar Pricing and the introduction of our new Healthy Choice Icon are key to this mission.

“We know that customers’ health needs and preferences vary so we’re truly excited to be launching a range of functional juices, protein yogurts and kefir drinks to customers looking for high-protein snacks or simple ways to incorporate more fruits, vegetables and nutrients into their diet.”

Products will launch in selected stores and online from January, with introductory offers also available on select products.
