The UK raspberry season has been launched officially by British Summer Fruits with the news that scientific research suggests eating raspberries can make you attractive to the opposite sex.

Ayurvedic medicine specialist Bharti Vyas cites evidence that raspberry consumption provokes a facial flush similar to that produced by sexual arousal. The fruit rapidly increases the speed of blood circulation which in turn floods the facial capilliaries.

“Raspberries are a very hot energy food and the effects of consuming them are dramatic,” said Vyas. “After 20 minutes of eating only a handful, a rosy flush becomes visible which lasts up to five hours. If you eat more raspberries the effect lasts longer.”

Vyas findings are backed up by sex and relationship guru Tracey Cox. “The brain makes a subconscious link between flushed skin and sexual arousal,” said Cox. “I advise my clients that rosy cheeks are the most powerful indicator of attraction.”

The findings are good news for British Summer Fruits especially as Vyas adds that all berries are a hot energy food, raspberries are just the hottest as they have substantially more seeds.

The seeds found in both raspberries and strawberries contain very high levels of testosterone-producing zinc - a mineral linked with sexual arousal - as well as high levels of vitamins C and E which are though to be important in boosting sex drive.

“Zinc is undoubtedly the most important mineral for sexual arousal and fertility,” said Cox. “It’s very simple - the more raspberries you eat, the sexier you look and feel.”
