Rain lashes banana plantations

Costa Rican authorities are assessing damage to banana plantations after recent rainfall. “Fortunately flooding in most areas did not last more than 24 hours,” Jorge Sauma, president of Corbana, told freshinfo.

“There has been damage to bridges and roads but we have maintained exports. However, volumes will decrease slightly because of this and cool December temperatures.”

Meanwhile, Colombian authorities are urging banana producers to maintain spraying programmes as heavy rains threaten disease problems.
