Potato and vegetable grower QV Foods is to invest £100,000 in solar panels at its site in Holbeach Hurn, Lincolnshire.

The photovoltaic panels will generate energy to power the factory that packs potatoes for Asda. Renewable energy firm RenEnergy estimated the system will generate 30 per cent of the electricity used by the building, and save 22,590kg of carbon per year. The return on investment is estimated at seven years, the company told FPJ.

“With the current economic climate and with our environmental objectives firmly set, renewable energy is the perfect solution for QV Foods, allowing the business to focus on reducing both cost and carbon emissions,” said Steve Green, head of operations at QV Foods, which specialises in growing, packing and preparing produce for the retail, foodservice and wholesale sectors.
