Puffin Produce brand Blas Y Tir has been awarded the Tesco Best New Pembrokeshire Product of the Year in the county’s Produce Mark Awards.

The award, sponsored by Tesco, was presented to managing director Huw Thomas by councillor David Pugh, chairman of the county council, at the Pembrokeshire Show.

More than 300 regional produce suppliers participate in The Pembrokeshire Produce Mark Scheme and their membership is a guarantee that the products they sell and use are made in the county, and covers everything from arts and crafts to food and drink. Blas Y Tir was a joint winner with seafood specialist Café Mor.

The Blas Y Tir brand, which translates to Taste of the Land, offers a range of potatoes, including Maris Peer Pembrokeshire Earlies and Estima baking potatoes, which hold the True Taste award.

Other vegetables in the range include cauliflower, Savoy and green cabbage, leeks, broccoli, courgettes and spring onions.

Thomas said: “Given the wide range of high quality food and drink produced in Pembrokeshire, and the care and pride that goes into providing it, we’re particularly pleased to be singled out.

“The award reflects the close working relationship Puffin Produce enjoys with local farmers and our sustainable approach to the

Welsh food supply chain,” he added.
