A quarter of people are too lazy to make their lifestyle more environmentally friendly, according to a survey released last week.

The 2007 ‘Survey of Public Attitudes and Behaviours toward the environment’ gives an idea of how people in England think and behave towards the environment.

Of the issues that the public thinks the government should be putting the most time into, the environment came fourth behind crime, health, and education.

Three quarters of people believe that if people in the UK recycled more and used their car less, it would have an impact on the UK’s contribution to climate change - but even though 60 percent think people are willing to do more recycling, less than a fifth think that people are willing to fly or use a car less.

Since the 2001 survey, the proportion of people recycling has almost doubled to around three quarters.
