Pre-tax profit remained flat in the most recent financial year at fresh produce giant Minor, Weir and Willis.

The exotics specialist, which increased turnover in 2014 to £150 million from £137.4m, pointed to a competitive marketplace.

Pre-tax profit was at £3.1m for the second successive year, according to accounts posted at Companies House.

Speaking in the report accompanying the accounts, Sant Mehta, the company's MD, said: 'The external commercial environment is expected to remain competitive in 2015, although we remain confident that we will have a satisfactory level of performance in the future.'

The Birmingham-headquartered firm employed 248 staff in the financial year. Just over £149.9m of its turnover in 2014 was generated in the UK.
