Visitors to Good Food Show Winter in Birmingham learn about wide range of fruits and vegetables the region offers
The Association of Producers-Exporters of Fruit and Vegetables of the Region of Murcia (Proexport) took part in the ‘Good Food Show Winter’ fair in Birmingham last week, showcasing the region’s fruit and vegetables offer to UK consumers.
Murcia plays a key role in supplying the UK market with a wide variety of vegetables during the autumn-winter. “At this time, on the vegetable shelves of British supermarkets, you will mainly find products of Spanish origin, in large part from the Region of Murcia. Tomatoes, lettuce, celery, broccoli and peppers, among other varieties, reach the tables of British families directly from here,” said Fernando Gómez, general manager of Proexport.
The UK is Murcia’s third biggest market, behind Germany and France. Last year it received 268,039 tonnes of fresh produce worth €411.7mn.
“Our stand in Birmingham has received thousands of euphoric visitors with our healthy gastronomic proposal. Co-financed by the Department of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Region of Murcia, it has allowed us to reinforce the fresh product ‘Grown in Spain’, to talk with consumers and professionals from restaurants, supermarkets, the processing industry and importers in the UK and to help our producers to increase their sales in the UK.”
