A consortium of product and packaging experts have been supported by funding from Yorkshire Forward to aid product design.

The Clear View Programme from Appetizing Innovation, delivered by the regional food group, intends to help companies take an informed strategic view to develop profitable and successful mainstream products.

With access to business and academic expertise and the latest technologies, Clear View aims to provide practical solutions to boost innovation and improve commercial viability.

This programme is available to all companies in the Yorkshire and Humber food and drink industry, from small start-ups with plans for new products to established major players looking to optimise the profitability of their range.

Following an initial assessment to identify and define specific needs, companies engage with targeted modules that provide market analysis, benchmarking and competitor comparison, creative workshops, recipe and process review and commercial mapping.

Sarah Knapper, research and development director for the regional food group, said: "Businesses that understand their products, finances, routes to market and customer base can make strategic and day-to-day decisions that minimise costs, improve efficiencies and ensure they are alert to new opportunities. The Clear View programme gives all companies in the region access to a skills and knowledge resource that enables them to do that."
