Produce World says it has helped to teach over 4,000 children the importance of growing fresh vegetables at this year's Food and Farming Day on 5 July in Peterborough.

The vegetable producer's stand, which was supporting the East of England Agricultural Society's Kids Country programme, used a large interactive display of vegetable varieties, a quiz and a human vegetable machine to entice youngsters.

Andrew Burgess, argicultural director at Produce World, said it is imperative growers continue to educate the young on vegetables and to encourage them to pursue a career in the fresh-produce industry.

He said: “This is a great opportunity for us meet young enthusiastic people and to highlight the benefits of fresh vegetables and how they are grown. We work very closely with the younger generation to encourage more people into this vital industry, and attending events such as those within the Kids Country programme allows us to illustrate this perfectly.”
