The Chilean agriculture attaché in the United States, Eduardo Santos has urged delegates at the International Roundtable Business Conference that Chileans must be prepared for US legislation regarding bio-terrorism so it does not affect their imports.

The legislation proposed on bio-terrorism is part of the whole set of implementation following the United States tightening security post September 11, as the United States wishes to protect against attacks upon the food chain.

Santos believes if Chilean growers comply quickly and are ready for the challenges they can turn it to their advantage. He said: “Some details are still being worked upon by US authorities, but it is important Chileans are ready for demands.”
