Asda research has revealed that three per cent of adults are using fresh produce to create natural beauty treatments, bath oils, deodorants and skincare creams.

If the trend is reflected nationwide, said Asda, more than a million adults may be making the products at home. “The message that fruit and vegetables are great for your health has gone beyond the dinner plate,” said Nick Scrase, fresh produce spokesman for Asda.

The survey of 2,700 adults found that the manufacture of “kitchen cosmetics” from fruit and vegetables has moved from a niche pursuit to a mainstream market.
