Adults and children try crafting pictures of cucumbers at last year's festival

The organisers of The Cucumber Festival are celebrating the launch of the British cucumber season by holding a procession through the centre of Waltham Abbey.

On Saturday 25 February, consumers can try new season cucumbers and meet special guest Mr Cucumber.

Suppliers involved in the Cucumber Festival are Abbeyview, Valley Grown Salads, Stubbins, UK Salads, Glinwell and on the committee are the Marriot Hotel Group, Premiere Inns and representatives from Tesco’s Tesco & the community.

The Cucumber Festival was set up last year following the E.coli issue in Germany.

It is a partnership in the Lea Valley between the key producers and the local town partnership and council with the aim of promoting British Salads from the Lea Valley and the local community.

Stephen Hedderly, technical director at Abbeyview and chairman of The Cucumber Festival said: “Last year we held our first Festival and had 4,000 people attend and managed to raise over £2000 for local charities.”

This year The Cucumber Festival is planned for 12 May.
