Priva's new and environmentally friendly headquarters in the Netherlands is delivering an impressive energy saving performance, according to the firm.
The 8,200 sq metre site contains a number of features that make it a good fit within today’s environmentally friendly marketplace. It features an underground thermal storage system to deliver heating and cooling throughout the building. The system incorporates separate cold and warm wells, heat exchangers and heat pumps, suing the same principles applied by Priva to the closed greenhouse concept.
The underground springs are said to supply up to 437kW of heating and up to 465kW of cooling. These are believed to be capable of providing energy cost reductions of 40-80%, depending on application.
Priva director Meiny Prins explained: “The natural ventilation system is based on greenhouse technology allowing skylights in the roof to be opened and then adjusted to exactly match internal cooling requirements. And, of course, the energy savings in adopting natural ventilation are exceptional as air conditioning systems are one of the greenest energy consumers within building services.”
