Brittany producers are hoping to increase sales of cauliflower to the UK this season.
Olivier Sinquin, marketing director with Prince de Bretagne, said the growers’ gaining of certification from SGS and an increase in production boded well for sales to the UK market.
Sinquin said, at Sial last week, that the organisation was optimistic the certification to EurepGAP standards would be a big boost for its operations in the UK market.
“It’s very important for us, previously we just used our own certification. It’s not quite a completely new start for us, but will certainly make it easier to sell produce to the UK marketplace.”
He also said increasing demand within Europe for different sized cauliflower had meant an increase in production among Brittany’s producers which in turn would also mean greater availability of product for the UK market.
The company also launched a range of microwaveable baby veg products into the UK last month, Sinquin said.
Featuring cauliflower, artichoke, new potatoes, and broccoli, Sinquin said the products were aimed at capturing the modern need for convenience.
