Capespan chairman Dr Paul Clüver has been appointed chairman of the Stellenbosch University (SU) council.

Clüver said: “It’s an interesting challenge, and I’ll certainly try to add value to the council. However, to give this position the time it deserves, it might be necessary to scale down my other activities.”

Clüver has been chairman of Capespan since deregulation in 1999 and, as an apple, pear and plum producer on the family farm De Rust, his close association with the company dates back many years.

SU rector professor Russel Botman said: “Clüver’s academic knowledge, experience and exposure of world markets and his passion for Stellenbosch University make him an ideal leader of the council and the university in general.”

Clüver has served as a member of the university council for the past eight years. In addition to chairing the Capespan board, he also serves on the boards of De Rust Estate and Company of Wine People.
