A cross-section of the potato industry came together on the Scottish border for MBMG’s annual Potato Lovers dinner.

The guests, from across the supply chain, inspected the Juliette potato crops at George Curry's West Newbiggin Farm, near Berwick-upon-Tweed, and drank the traditional toast to the new crop on the banks of the River Tweed.

The farm tour, on July 2, was followed by a cookery demonstration with MBMG’s Anya potato by one of the region’s most prestigious chefs, Colin Bussey. The former executive chef of Gleneagles and DeVere Cameron House presented a number of recipes showcasing the versatility and taste of the variety.

The annual dinner took place at the Tillmouth Park Country House hotel, where guests were treated to a potato-themed menu prepared by The Lanesborough’s executive chef, Paul Gayler, and the Sheraton Park Lane’s executive chef Andrew Bennett.

MBMG sales director Neil Beeton told guests that potato growers faced a rapid increase in input costs and he called for closer relationships between customers and their suppliers to ensure mutual survival.
