UK farm ministers have approved levy rates to be charged for growers by the Agriculture & Horticulture Development Board (AHDB).

The new rates come into force on 1 April and include a three per cent rise in the GB Potato levy, which moves to £42.62 a hectare for those producers growing 3ha or more.

This is the final increase in a three-year programme.

Meanwhile, there are no other changes to the other sectors including horticulture where the AHDB levy remains at 0.5 per cent of sales turnover.

The board consulted on the planned increase on potatoes at the end of last year following potato industry support for its proposal in 2010 for a series of three small levy increases.

Prior to 2010, the British potato levy rate remained unchanged for eight years.
