One of Ireland’s leading potato brands saw turnover fall after it lowered prices to stay competitive in a 'challenging market'.
Wilson's Country, which supplies retailers across Ireland with own-label and branded pre-pack potatoes, and peeled potatoes to foodservice, saw turnover fall from £14 million to £11.9m in the year to 25 July 2015.
Pre-tax profit was down 75 per cent.
A spokesperson said: 'The 2014 harvest saw reasonable farmgate prices and hence gross profit level is significantly down on 2013-14.'
