Potato event set for 'record number' of visitors

Record numbers are expected to attend this year’s BP2011, the Potato Council's head of communications has said.

Dr Sharon Hall said: “BP2011 is the number one event in the British potato industry. There is so much to do and see - the latest equipment and machinery, market information, seminars on issues such as emerging pests and diseases, climate change, the latest on R&D - in addition to ample networking opportunities."

Entry to this year’s event held at the Yorkshire Event Centre, Harrogate on 23 and 24 November is free of charge.

Students who are potential next-generation growers, packers and members of the supply chain will be very welcome to attend alongside those already involved in the industry, Hall said.

The Cool Farm Tool that measures the levels of greenhouse gases produced throughout the crop production process will be showcased on the Potato Council stand.

A potato-specific version is currently being tested in on-farm trials with two of the UK’s largest potato buyers.

Growers are encouraged to make an appointment to measure potato-specific greenhouse gas emissions on the Potato Council stand at BP2011 and enter a special Potato Council prize draw to win free entry to World Potato Congress.
