Potato Council seeks award nominations

The Potato Council is seeking nominations for this year's British Potato Industry Award.

The honour is presented to an individual recognised for their outstanding contribution to the UK potato industry.

Nominations must be made by July 31. The award committee, drawn from the different sectors of the domestic potato industry, will select the winner.

Jim Godfrey, chairman of the award committee, said: “This is a special year for potatoes, with the United Nations declaring 2008 the International Year of the Potato - the UK’s second most important food crop.

“The British potato industry is one of the leading potato industries in the world, and is made up of many wonderful people who have helped shape it to what it is today. We are asking for nominations of outstanding people for this award from all sectors of the industry.”

Nomination forms can be downloaded from the Potato Council website - www.potato.org.uk
