Postsaver said its new tieup with the Belgian company would help it bring its timber-protection technology to orchards across Belgium and neighbouring countries.

The company explained that since the 2023 EU ban on creosote for use in agriculture, fruit growers have faced significant challenges in sourcing durable wooden stakes for their orchards, with concrete alternatives proving costly, offering less durability, and poor environmental credentials.

Peter Müller is now giving the fruit-growing sector an alternative in the shape of a copper-salt treated stake combined with a protective Postsaver barrier wrap that guarantees a lifespan of 20 years.

The company said the innovation could revolutionise orchard management by providing a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to existing options.

Belgium’s fruit-farming industry spans approximately 17,000ha, with pears, apples and cherries as the primary crops.

“We’re thrilled to have Peter Müller join our mission to sustainably extend the lifespan of timber products,” said Richard George, Postsaver’s chief executive. “Their deep understanding of the fruit-farming sector and established relationships with distributors and resellers make them an invaluable partner in expanding our reach.”

Pieter Nijskens of Peter Müller added, “We’ve already had some overwhelmingly positive feedback to the product and our first order, so we’re confident that the fruit-growing sector will respond very well to this durable and cost-efficient offering. The 20-year guarantee offered by Postsaver-protected stakes is a standout feature, providing peace of mind and a clear advantage over other products on the market.”
