Portrait the apple of his eye

Ian Mitchelll, the retiring chairman of the Bramley Campaign, is pictured receiving a painting of himself in a Bramley orchard from Sir Ben Gill, former National Farmers’ Union president, at the AGM of English Apples & Pears Ltd (EAP) on March 17.

The presentation was a gift from all members of EAP to mark Mitchell’s retirement as chairman of the campaign, and as a director of EAP.

In making the presentation, Gill, now EAP chairman, said: “Ian has made a huge contribution to the industry, particularly through his outstanding leadership as chairman of the Bramley Campaign for 17 years, but also as a director of EAP since the formation of the company in 1990. The whole industry owes him an enormous debt of gratitude, and we all wish him well in his retirement from public service for the industry.”
