Kent site offers high-quality facilities for lorry drivers to rest and recharge
Logistics provider PML has toasted the success of its SNAP Parking facility at the company’s transport and logistics hub in Lympne, Kent.
The firm said that since it joined the scheme at the end of March 2022, there has been a steady increase in the number of lorries booking in to use the safe and secure parking amenities, with an average increase of 20 more trucks per night.
According to the company, drivers are both attracted to the convenient location - within close proximity to the ports and motorways - and also to new best-in-class washroom facilities, on-site catering providing hot meals and snacks, 24-hour security and easy access to the lorry wash and fuel pumps.
PML believes it is unique in being the only site offering separate welfare facilities – showers and toilets – for women, and while the percentage of female drivers is relatively low at approximately five per cent, the company said it has taken steps to ensure that their needs are equally catered for.
Managing director Mike Parr said: “Our priority for Kent was to provide a transport hub of an exemplary standard, which is comparable to those found on the continent, where drivers are treated with the respect that they deserve.
“We have had close to 4,000 truck movements at PML since March last year, with the vast majority (approximately 90 per cent) of these being classed as overseas drivers. SNAP’S Intruck app makes it easy for these drivers to seek out the facilities at PML, which ensure that they have access to the amenities essential not only for their general wellbeing, but also for the welfare of other road users.
”A driver who has not been able to rest adequately for fear of their lorry being broken into, or who feels uncomfortable due to the inability to shower, freshen up and eat a decent meal, does not make for a safe driver. We will continue to focus our efforts on providing a service that genuinely caters for the needs of all drivers.”
