UK perishable logistics firm poised to “step in and help” produce companies affected by Heathrow closure
Perishable logistics firm PML Seafrigo says it is on hand to help UK produce businesses affected by today’s (21 March) unexpected closure of Heathrow airport.
The company, which operates internationally and has three main depots in the UK including one at Heathrow, has offered to provide a collection service from alternative UK airports where imported goods have been unexpectedly rerouted.
In addition, PML Seafrigo said it is able to ensure the seamless movement of exported goods to alternative London airports, specifically London Gatwick or Stansted, subject to space and availability.
PML Seafrigo UK and Ireland CEO, Mike Parr said: “We are keen to help companies affected by this situation, especially those whose consignments comprise perishable goods, where any delay in transfer has a detrimental effect on shelf life. We operate a 24/7 service so we can step in and help immediately, contact our helpline (0)20 8893 2666.”
A fire at a nearby power station caused a significant power outage across Heathrow airport last night and has resulted in major disruption with all flights cancelled. The airport is to remain shut until midnight tonight.
PML Seafrigo, whose Heathrow facilities are unaffected by the fire, is extending an offer to those whose freight is impacted by the situation.
