PLMA’s 2004 “World of Private Label” International Trade Show, held May 25-26 at Amsterdam’s RAI Centre, attracted more retail and wholesale buyers as well as more exhibiting companies than last year’s event.

More than 5,300 visitors from 90 countries visited the show. Visitors included buyers representing the world’s largest retailers such as Carrefour, Tesco, Aldi, Metro, Asda, Ahold, Wal-Mart, Marks & Spencer, and Delhaize le Lion.

Overall retailer and wholesaler attendance was up, and more buyers than ever visited the show’s VIP Lounge. More than 1,400 companies, with 2,700 stands, exhibited. The number of exhibitors was more than 10 per cent higher than last year and much of the increase resulted from greater participation by manufacturers based in new EU countries.

The exhibiting companies represented nearly 60 countries. “This year’s ‘World of Private Label’ was one of our most successful ever,” said Brian Sharoff, president, PLMA. “We made several changes to make the trade show more innovative and run more smoothly, and they were well-received by buyers, exhibitors and other visitors.”

The changes included a preview for new exhibitors, featuring champagne and snacks, the night before the show floor officially opened; a new location for the fresh and frozen section that allowed for more space to be devoted to the increasing number of national pavilions; and the placement of exhibitor stands in the corridors connecting halls within the RAI’s Holland Complex.
