The Farplants Group is now taking commercial orders for pineberry plants for UK retail distribution in Spring 2012.
The wholesale distributors of ornamental and productive plants is offering up the plants for the first time and is “disease resistant with a healthy yield”.
The pineapple flavoured white berry is already enjoying a popular following having been made available as a supermarket fruit via selected Waitrose stores in 2010.
Andrew Desmond, managing director of Toddington Nurseries Ltd, who supplies Farplants, said: “We are really excited here at Toddington Nurseries about this plant. Its habit is very similar to a traditional strawberry and so should be familiar to domestic growers but until now plants have only been made available on a limited basis. We hope that by making it available in more commercial numbers we can encourage wider availability in 2012.”
