Costa Rican pineapple exports are expected to increase by 15 per cent in 2007, a growth rate significantly lower than the 32 per cent increase achieved in 2006.

But according to the president of the Chamber of Pineapple Producers and Exporters, the slowdown in shipments is a normal effect of the industry’s stabilisation, and production levels still remain high.

The chamber anticipates an export volume of 1.38m tonnes in 2007, compared to 1.17mt in 2006 and a value of $430 million (£218m). This in itself compared to $325m in 2005.
