PFM to the rescue

PFM Packaging Machinery Ltd has enabled a small family business, Windwhistle Farm, to modernise and meet demand from major retailers. Based in Northern Ireland, Windwhistle Farm needed to modernise if it was to fulfil high volume orders for its prepared vegetables from Tesco and Sainsbury’s and, as a result, PFM was called in to provide a new weighing machine.

Due to a recommendation from one of PFM’s existing customers, Windwhistle Farm called on the Leeds-based manufacturer of packaging machinery to provide it with a MBP10 XMR60 multihead weigher. The machinery comprises 10 heads and weigh pans inclined to 60 degrees and is renowned for its speed, precision and simplicity of operation.

PFM's intervention has brought increased throughput and weighing accuracy, which had previously been difficult to achieve. The weigher deals with different pack sizes from 350 grams through 750 grams to a one-kilo size, as well as working at speeds, which the supermarkets, and the local shops with which the company also does business, are demanding.

“The celery, carrots, parsley and leeks, which we cut up for our mixes, can be difficult to handle. We had been doing the job by hand in the 25 years since the company started, but we really needed to speed up through automation,” said James Booth of Windwhistle Farm. “We were told by another company operating in our part of the world that the best thing we could do was trust PFM. We did and we are delighted with the outcome. The weigher is excellent and we can't fault it. We would have no hesitation in returning to PFM to meet any future needs, or recommending them to others.”
