Peter Kendall is set to receive a knighthood.

The former NFU president and current Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) chairman has been awarded the honour in the Queen's New Year Honours list for services to agriculture.

Kendall, who led the NFU between 2006 and 2014, said it was a 'massive honour', and reflected the 'growing awareness of the importance of the farming industry.'

Of his time at the helm of the NFU, Kendall told BBC News: 'I was very keen that farming was seen as an innovative industry and one that was attractive to young people.

'It is very pleasing that people now see that they can follow careers in farming, and it is more relevant to the next generation.'
