NFU president Peter Kendall has been elected a vice president of COPA-COGECA - the umbrella organisation representing the interests of all farmers in Europe.

COPA-COGECA has over 70 member organisations and represents the interests of 11 million farmers and their cooperatives in the 25 member states.

The appointment, made at the two-day Praesidium in Brussels, should help strengthen the NFU’s influence on key issues affecting European agriculture.

Kendall said: “It is important the NFU plays an active role in ensuring COPA represents the concerns of European farmers and makes sure its influence is felt in Brussels.”

The joint vice-president post, which Kendall will hold with five colleagues, will last for two years. Jean-Michel Lemetayer of France’s FNSEA has been appointed president.
