As fears over pesticide registration mount the British Crop Production Council (BCPC) has teamed up with the National Farmers Union (NFU) to offer growers online advice.

There are currently more than 1,300 approved pesticide products in the UK making selection a key issue in using pesticides. NFU members can now benefit from 20 per cent discount off the web based product www.plantprotection.co.uk which gives advice to growers.

The resource was launched by BCPC in 2008 to provide farmers, advisers and growers with easy online access to authoritative and reliable information on pesticides and adjuvants for use in UK agriculture, horticulture and forestry.

BCPC’s general manager, Chris Todd, said: “The latest plant protection data went live on 12 January 2009 so our online resource is right up-to-date. That is why we are delighted to have linked with the NFU so that its members can gain access to the information they need to meet their legal obligations and the requirements of assurance schemes and cross-compliance in various government initiatives.”

The online service offers all that appears in the annually produced UK Pesticide Guide plus more but is updated throughout the year and provides users with the latest product news and developments.
