Pauleys lends a helping hand

Pauleys, supplier to the foodservice sector, is working with the community food network charity FareShare to provide fresh produce to more than 80 various community organisations in and around London, and has supported the equivalent of more than 22,000 meals since April.

The leading fresh produce company is supplying FareShare London with a pallet of fresh fruit and vegetables a day. Due to the success of this initiative, FareShare Brighton has also begun weekly collections of produce from the Brakes depot in Aylesford, Kent.

Pauleys and Brakes have taken a proactive approach to dealing with their surplus and waste food by supporting worthwhile projects in London and Brighton.

Brakes’ Sean Negus said: “In 2007, Brakes donated more than 11 tonnes of food to FareShare, with the rollout of this support from Pauleys/Brakes are underlining their commitment to this innovative and worthwhile organisation. At a time when food waste continues to be a growing concern, we are proud to not only make a difference to the projects supported by FareShare, but also prevent perfectly good food being land-filled. “This simple solution has enabled good nutritious food to go to vulnerable people in our community, and helps support our commitment to minimising our impact on the environment.”

After the initial success, Pauleys’ project will be rolled out to other FareShare distribution centres with FareShare Birmingham receiving produce to support local projects in the Midlands.
