Paul Clüver will be standing down as a non-executive director at Fyffes from 30 April.

He told the Fyffes board of directors he did not wish to put himself forward for re-election at the next annual general meeting, due to be held in Dublin on 12 May, in order to retire.

Fyffes chairman David McCann said: “Dr Clüver has been a non-executive director of Fyffes since 1999 and has decided not to seek re-election on the basis of the length of time he has served on the board.

“I would like to thank Paul for his valued advice while a director of Fyffes, during which period the group has gone through much change and development. Paul’s wisdom and his knowledge of the fresh produce industry have always been of great assistance to the board. We wish him well for the future.”

Clüver has chaired Capespan Group Holdings in South Africa almost since deregulation in 1997.

He is the winner of numerous awards including the international Drinks Business Green Award for lifetime achievement in 2010 as chairman and owner of Paul Clüver Wines, and was awarded South Africa’s business personality of the year 2005.

The business gong was given in recognition of his entrepreneurial excellence, outstanding company performance and a sustained track record, as well as his social conscience and involvement in the workforce and community.
