Health bosses have launched a new website to help parents improve their childrens’ diet.

The Department of Health’s new 5 A DAY website includes tips, games and recipes to make it easier for parents to encourage their children to eat more fruit and vegetables.

The site, www.5ADAY.nhs.uk, also contains pages for the industry, providing information about the benefits of getting involved in the 5 A DAY programme and giving examples of other industry initiatives, such as Iceland’s “Don’t forget the veg mum” campaign.

One of the on-line games on the site, called Super Sumo Smoothie, is aimed at showing teenagers that eating fruit can be fun.

Health Minister Melanie Johnson said: “Super Sumo Smoothie is a fun way of communicating health messages to young people in an educational and engaging way.

“By using the web, a medium that many youngsters are comfortable with, we can provide them with a range of information, tips and games all designed to help them make healthy choices about what they eat.”
