Two former packaging organisations have merged to create the brand new Packaging and Films Association (PAFA).
The Packaging and Industrial Films Association (PIFA) and the Flexible Packaging Association (FPA) have combined into one body, in order to better represent the £2 billion UK industry dedicated to the development and manufacture of films and the conversion of lightweight flexible packaging and rigid sheet.
The new association will represent around 80 per cent of the UK’s flexibles industry, with links to create European influence.
PAFA aims to serve members’ interests in every aspect of their business, from energy and environmental regulations to informing retailers and consumers of the outstanding performance credentials of flexible and rigid packaging. There will also be expert representation in areas such as health and safety, technological advances and human resource issues.
The move comes as the packaging industry is facing an increasing burden from cost pressures and competitive influences, as well as larger volumes of legislation and regulations. PAFA aims to minimise negative impacts on industry profitability caused by EU and UK legislation.
