Fresh fruit importer Peter Gilding suffered a slight dip in pre-tax profit and turnover due to a global oversupply of product.

TheLiverpool-based top fruit and citrus specialist saw its pre-tax profit fall from £1.3 million to £736k in the year ending 31 October 2014.

Turnover fell from £63.3m in the 'exceptional' 2012-13 financial year, to £62.4m in the most recent financial year, according to accounts posted at Companies House.

The actual number of 'packages' the firm handled increased in the 2013-14 year, though.

And during the most recent financial year, the eponymously-named business - built up by its owner over nearly 30 years - completed an extension to its packing department, which has 'considerably improved the despatch area and flow of product', and expanded its QC department, which has 'benefitted the business, suppliers and customers.'
