BioFach, the global organic food conference held in Nuremberg, Germany, has heard of how the industry is presently growing by £2.5billion annually, with sales predicted to top the £20bn barrier in 2007. Moreover, it seems there is strong interest in organic produce from the big emerging nations.

Internationally, the USA still remains the largest market, with £8 billion in 2006 - year-on-year increase of a startling 20 per cent. Large companies in the food industry like Heinz, Hain Celestial or Kraft Foods are paying increasing attention to organic food, as are well-known labels such as Levis are also backing organic in the textiles segment.

The conference has also heard how China could be a big driver in the organic revolution, with a new breed of affluent Chinese consumer now often resorting to purchasing certified organic goods from abroad in order to meet rising demand.

However, the conference also heard how Brazil, already a leading organic exporter, is also developing a large internal market for organic produce.
