Organics for all at flower show

An organic group’s plans to promote home-grown organics at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show have been given a boost by celebrity chef James Martin.

The “Ready, Steady, Cook” star has kindly agreed to launch HDRA’s Organic Food for All exhibit at Chelsea on Monday, May 23.

The organisation’s display will feature three large windows, offering an insight into how people from all walks of life can learn how to grow their own organic vegetables and fruit through HDRA’s latest project.

The Organic Food for All (OFfA) programme aims to provide free training to 100 mentors from across the UK, so they can share their skills with complete beginners.

The aim is to give many more people the opportunity to enjoy fresh organic food - whatever their budget. HDRA, which is based in Warwickshire, will be able to raise the profile of this innovative project at Chelsea thanks to support from Nemasys, a range of natural pest controls.

James Martin, a strong supporter of organic food, said: “As a chef, I always want to use the best ingredients, but not everyone has access to fresh, organic produce. HDRA’s project seems to be a wonderful way for more people to experience the benefits of eating organic vegetables and fruit. And I’m sure nothing tastes better than food you have grown yourself.”

Dr Susan Kay-Williams, HDRA’s Chief Executive, said: “Our exhibit this year will be very different, capturing the spirit of the Organic Food for All project in a dramatic and engaging way, to encourage more people to have a go at growing their own food.”
