The area devoted to organic produce in Europe has increased by over 40 per cent this year, with the UK showing the most dramatic growth. Just under 1 million hectares is now dedicated to this burgeoning sector, with Italy topping the area of organics grown table and Germany heading the consumer market. Plantations also rose sharply in Spain, Portugal, Greece, Denmark, Belgium and France.
